I don’t know if you have any handy people in your life, but I can tell you that these folks are lifesavers.

I have a lot of handy friends, including mechanics and plumbers.

They’re always bailing me out of difficult situations and helping me to get back on my feet without throwing away my entire savings account for a professional service that takes only an hour or so. This is how I manage to get by most of the time on a low income. One of the handiest people that I know, however, is my older brother. He became a heating, cooling, and air quality control technician a few years ago and makes incredible money doing what he does. He installs both residential and commercial indoor air handling solutions for customers all over the region. I know that he’s incredibly busy, traveling around to tell people how to improve their breathing and temperature control options. He’s always installing massive heating and cooling equipment, air media purifiers, and dehumidification devices. Any time we speak he has a new story from the latest heating and cooling installation job. That’s why I feel terrible asking him for help with my own tiny indoor air quality control setup… but at the same time, I don’t want to pay another professional heating and cooling technician to come give my AC a gander. I just call my big brother and ask if he can squeeze my HVAC onto his busy schedule. Sometimes i have to wait a few weeks for him to troubleshoot my HVAC system, but in the end he always helps me out. It pays to have people in your life you don’t have to pay.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I jumped into securing a mortgage for a new home and actually followed through on purchasing a brand new home.

I wasn’t sure what I was doing exactly, but I knew that I didn’t want to keep paying rent out the nose for a subpar apartment in a city I didn’t care about.

The truth was, I just wanted to live alone in the woods and be left alone to hunt and gather my own food. Instead, I wound up buying a piece of property in the suburbs just because it seemed like a good deal. Now let me tell you, I am regretting all my decisions. I thought this big home would be amazing, but it’s just expensive. Especially when it comes down to the heating, cooling, and indoor air quality control equipment in question. You see, the old central heating, cooling, and ventilation system was supposed to last another ten years or so according to the property inspector. Instead, I found that there were issues with the central indoor air quality control equipment basically the first day that I moved in. There were a ton of hot and cold patches throughout the house, there were uneven temperatures popping up in every room, and the heating, cooling, and air quality control system was making a ton of noise. I called the local heating and cooling repair shop after getting my first astronomically high energy bills and asked what I could do. Unfortunately, they recommended adding more insulation to the whole house and replacing the entire HVAC system. I couldn’t afford all that temperature control maintenance work, so I just wound up living in discomfort this whole time. Now I’m wishing I was living outdoors, without HVAC whatsoever.

I have been getting my masters degree in psychology for the past year or so.

I have to say, the program leaves a lot to be desired, but I’m happy with how it fits into my day to day life nevertheless.

I’m able to do my school work from anywhere because it’s an online program that I joined. This gives me a lot of freedom to travel, to take care of myself, and to do my other jobs. The only things that are complicated about my schooling setup at the moment are finding adequate indoor heating and cooling to keep me comfortable enough to concentrate and securing a solid internet connection so I can reliably get my work done. The thing is, it’s pretty hard to find both conditions. I can easily get good internet, but them I’m usually suffering in an ice cold eating establishment or a burning library. I rarely have any control over the indoor air quality control settings… and honestly… it feels like the people working in those awful air conditions don’t have a handle on the thermostat either. I feel bad for them and immediately scoot out to find better indoor air quality as quickly as possible. The only problem being, I can sit in my car and have the best indoor air quality control… but then I often can’t get enough internet signal. I wind up with tons of air conditioning blasting on my face, feeling amazing.. But my work progress halts. I love being able to work and study from anywhere, but I wish that every HVAC system was as amenable as my remote life.

I don’t know how you feel about roommate situations, but I feel… not very good. I can’t say that I have had a great living situation with any other human before. There’s always some drama that you don’t see coming before it’s too late when you’re cohabitating with irresponsible people. And that seems ot be the norm in my world, at least. These people seem like they’re responsible adults until we’re in the same house, sharing the same heating, cooling, and air quality control system… not to mention, the same utility bills. This is when all the problems start. We always have differing indoor air quality control preferences, from the air temperature all the way down to the humidity levels and the amount that we’re comfortable changing the thermostat each day. Honestly, I’d rather that we could just agree on one set thermostat program and never touch the indoor air quality control equipment again. I want to establish an energy efficient, conservative indoor temperature control setting program and let the thermostat run the rest of the show. I want someone to take ownership of the indoor air filter changes and basic maintenance requests. I don’t want to be bothered with arguing about the monthly energy bills or the upcoming HVAC repair services that we expect after beating the hell out of the heater and cooling system. I think these are pretty reasonable requests, but I’ve never found roommates who have the same HVAC beliefs that I do. Instead, we fight about the temperature and bills until the day our lease runs out. Then we never speak again. Give me the straight forward heating and cooling, leave out the drama please.

My married life is really complicated.

I know that I’m with the right person because we’re a perfect match… but there are so many days when I wonder if my husband and I are out of our minds.

A lot of things that take place in our home are questionable. We can be so spacey together at times, it’s embarrassing to even admit some of our mistakes. Last week, for instance, we decided that we were going to start paying so much money for our high energy bills by changing our old school thermostat. Not only were the thermostat settings way too demanding for our entire heating, cooling, and air quality control system, but the thermostat itself could use an upgrade before summer set in. We decided to have a professional heating, cooling, and ventilation technician install a smart air temperature control device for us so that the temperature control equipment could be quickly regulated with energy-efficient settings that we did not have to worry about. The HVAC tech tested the thermostat on the heat setting, and we were pleased with the professional service. After the heating, cooling, and air quality control technician installed our brand-new temperature control device we didn’t notice that the indoor air felt very nice. But, still, we were expecting to see a change on our upcoming energy bill. We sure did… but the change went in the wrong direction. Our energy bill somehow increased. That’s when my husband realized that we never actually set the thermostat to “cool” mode. It was still pumping heat into the house.
